History

The history of human habitation in what is today Seattle dates back over four millennia. The so-called Denny Party arrived aboard the schooner Exact in November 1851. Seattle's development as a major shipbuilding center represented a a natural next step. Many prospectors poured through the city on their way to Alaska's Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th century.
